Slovak universities provide the appropriate level of training for healthcare professionals, taking care to develop practical skills. From the first courses of many universities, students have the opportunity to be exposed to the realities of health care in the country's clinics and various research centers.
Today, anesthesiologists, general practitioners, family doctors, psychiatrists and pediatricians, as well as neurologists, radiologists and surgeons, are among the most in-demand and best-paid health professionals in most European countries.
General practitioners in these specialties typically earn around €3,000-3,200 per month for a 40-hour working week, even at the start of their careers.
Today, in addition to the growing need for accredited doctors, there is also a sharper market need for mid-career and junior healthcare workers. This shortage has led to higher salaries and it is not unusual for nurses to earn as much as (or more than) highly specialized doctors, for example in EU countries such as Denmark and Italy.
